It's Jack-O'-Lantern Carving Time

NICHES Land Trust is looking for volunteer pumpkin carvers to help transform Clegg Memorial Gardens into a magical autumn experience during our annual Jack-O'-Lantern Hike on October 29 - 31, 2026.

 Do you have a hidden talent for pumpkin carving? Have you been waiting for the perfect opportunity to show off your creativity? 

Each year, carved pumpkins line the woodland trail at Clegg, creating a one-of-a-kind nighttime adventure for families and nature lovers. The event is entirely powered by community creativity, and the more pumpkins we receive, the more spectacular the hike becomes.

Whether you're an experienced Pumpkin Picasso, a Gourd van Gogh, or simply looking for a fun family activity, we'd love to have your help. Individuals, families, scout troops, classrooms, clubs, workplaces, and community groups are all encouraged to participate. Every carved pumpkin helps create a memorable experience while supporting local land conservation. Each individual who carves a pumpkin will receive free admission to the event.

Enter the People's Choice Contest

In addition to decorating the trail, your pumpkin will be entered into our annual People's Choice Contest. Hikers will vote for their favorite jack-o'-lantern throughout the event, and the winning carver will receive prizes and local bragging rights. Past winners have created everything from wildlife-inspired masterpieces to spooky seasonal favorites.

Why We Need Your Help

The Jack-O'-Lantern Hike has grown into one of NICHES' most beloved community events. In previous years, nearly 300 carved pumpkins helped illuminate the trail for hundreds of visitors. Every pumpkin donated by a volunteer adds to the magic and helps create an unforgettable experience for our guests.

How to Participate

1. Sign up here to let us know how many pumpkins you plan to carve.
2. Carve your pumpkins at home as close to the event as possible.
3. Drop them off on the porch at Clegg Memorial Gardens anytime on Wednesday, October 28, or before noon on Thursday, October 29.
4. Encourage your friends and family to experience the finished trail and vote for their favorites.

NICHES will provide the illumination, and all registered pumpkin carvers receive free admission to the hike.
