Stewardship Facility Grand Opening on August 22

NICHES Land Trust (NICHES) is pleased to announce the completion of a new Stewardship Headquarters facility at its Kickapoo Cliffs preserve in Warren County.

The 6,000 sq ft facility was designed by NICHES staff and features customized storage spaces for equipment, seed, and other land stewardship supplies – all of which were once stored in various locations across the organization’s 13-county service area. NICHES’ stewardship team moved into the building in the early summer following the completion of the $1 Million construction project. In addition to storing supplies for habitat restoration projects, the building supports the care of hiking trails and outreach events that expand community access to local natural areas.

“This is both a monumental and a vital step for NICHES, as we plan to nearly double our current protected land holdings and public nature preserves to a total of 8,000 acres by 2030. We are already seeing operational benefits from this project as our team has been able to work more efficiently and effectively now that supplies and equipment are securely stored in a centrally located facility,” remarks NICHES Executive Director Shannon Stanis.

A Grand Opening Celebration will be held at the NICHES Stewardship Headquarters, located at 4456 E Independence Rd in Attica, on Friday, August 22, at 11:00 am (EST). The celebration will feature a ribbon cutting, mural dedication, and recognition of the project’s supporters. All members of the public are invited to attend and celebrate this tremendous accomplishment for NICHES and the future of environmental conservation in northern Indiana.

August 22 Event Schedule

  • 11:00 AM Public Ribbon Cutting, tours to follow
  • 2:00 - 4:00 PM Public Open House, tours available

Major funding for the project was provided by North Central Health Services, the Roy A. Whistler Foundation, the McAllister Foundation, Community Foundation of Greater Lafayette, and Community Foundation of Warren County.

“We are grateful for the major donors and the many individual NICHES members who have supported the project. Thank you to everyone for ensuring NICHES can protect, restore, and sustain natural areas for future generations!” says NICHES Board President Trent Hanthorn.
